Swift Fox

Swift Foxes
Collared swift fox and pup
The swift fox is the smallest canid (dog) in North America. Closely related to the kit fox, swift foxes were once abundant across the Great Plains but were trapped for their fur and inadvertently poisoned to very low numbers in the 1800s and early 1900s, disappearing entirely from the northern portion of their range.  Today swift foxes are making a comeback and Defenders is helping to make this a wildlife success story.
