Economic Oasis: Revealing the True Value of the Mojave Desert

Economic Oasis is a report from Defenders of Wildlife showing that the Mojave Desert provides more than $1 billion annually in economic benefits to the counties of Inyo, Kern, Riverside and San Bernardino, and the Lancaster-Palmdale area of Los Angeles County.

This 32-page report is based on a comprehensive study by Defenders' Conservation Economics Program entitled, Economic Benefits of the Mojave Desert. The study details the economic value conserved desert lands provide to a variety of stakeholders from the military to local businesses, residents and tourists.

In the end, this report demonstrates that the desert's fantastic ecological and cultural treasures have tremendous environmental and economic value.
