Aimee Weldon

Aimee Weldon Living Lands Project Manager

Areas of expertise: Wildlife habitat corridors, biodiversity and conservation planning, private landowner incentive programs

Aimee manages the Living Lands program, an initiative aimed at helping to strengthen the role of land trusts in biodiversity conservation. In this role she works with the land trust community to provide educational tools, technical expertise on biodiversity conservation planning and restoration, and pilot project funding for specific high biodiversity-value projects on private lands. Aimee aims to facilitate regional partnerships of land trusts and other conservation groups to better conserve priority landscapes through creative use of incentive programs, technical tools, and planning initiatives such as the State Wildlife Action Plans.

Prior to joining Defenders, Aimee coordinated the Virginia Important Bird Areas program for the National Audubon Society. Her work with Audubon focused on identifying the most important places for birds across the state and then working with land trusts, state agencies, conservation groups, and local communities to better conserve or protect them. She has also worked on a variety of ecological projects across the country relevant to birds, insects, climate change, and habitat fragmentation and connectivity.

Aimee holds a M.S. in Zoology from North Carolina State University where she studied the effects of wildlife corridors on the nest success of early successional bird species. She completed a B.A. in Biology from the College of St. Benedict in her home state of Minnesota.
